Pat’s lettering is part of her signature style when she sketches. Sometimes she adds thought and feelings. Sometimes she describes what’s happening around her. Sometimes, she’ll just leave a sketch quiet, with only a title and date, in support. At times her titles are large and coloured and outlined. Her support text is often in capitals in drawn boxes. She links the colours of a title to colours in her sketch and there is magic in her use of space and breath and where she places everything.

This two-part course invites you to share a little in that magic. Your foundation will be lettering. But then, you’ll begin to play with your pages, responding to space and darks and colour and intuition and instinct will kick in, as Pat’s does.  It’ll be fascinating, fun and a VERY useful addition to your sketching armory.

Specific skills you will learn

• Week 1: Lettering skills, titles, simple sketches, and studying the possibilities
• Week 2: Opening our eyes to space, balance of colour, darks and lights.  Playing with titles and words in different ways , thicknesses, size, height, colour, to determine how text can best enhance and support the sketches we’ve drawn.
